Internal Work | Agency: Yonts + Co

Working on internal projects can always be a hassle for agencies. Obviously clients come first, but if you don’t upkeep your own brand, how can they trust you? From day one, I’ve acted as our internal art director/creative director/design lead/whatever. I love our brand and constantly look to push it forward.

While I want to write about every internal Yonts + Co project here, I’ll instead keep to the bigger ones and the ‘big ideas’ that persist across all of them. The biggest idea that I pushed from nearly day one at Yonts + Co was that our brand should represent creativity. In the community of Bowling Green, I wanted our agency to stand out, to be the ‘it’ agency.

When I first started at Yonts + Co the team only used 2-3 logos of the package that had been created, and when I opened up our Ai file, I knew we had to utilize more. Our buffalo logo has now become near synonymous with YCO in Bowling Green.

Using  my love for fashion, I became the merch designer for all things Yonts + Co (and most clients). As part of expanding our brand, I pulled and used logos that we had sparsely used elsewhere to increase brand recognition, as well as associating our team’s faces with the brand.

When we moved into our new office in late 2019, I was put in charge of creating the artwork to adorn our walls. Our team met to decide what we wanted and to clarify our mission statements and values. Once they were set, the team split up those ideals and each designed a number of posters for the wall. What resulted was a variety of designs that spoke to the quality, creativity and strength of the work Yonts + Co produces.

The biggest project that I’ve completed internally for Yonts + Co is creating our custom website, which I managed, designed, and developed from start to finish. (Except the copy— shoutout to the YCO team for that.)

After meeting with the team to determine pages needed and projects to be featured, I got to work. As part of this project, I also expanded our brand to include a new accent font, icons for the services we offer, and a sub-brand dedicated to our blog. Once the site was built and launched, I also took the opportunity to teach myself about best practices surrounding SEO and digital marketing. This resulted in a set of keywords used throughout the site’s copy, in meta descriptions and on future blog posts.

One of my favorite things about working at Yonts + Co is my boss’s trust in letting me run with any creative ideas I have for our brand. From having our own beer to getting to feel like a fashion designer, maintaining Yonts + Co’s brand has  resulted in some of my favorite work I’ve done to date.
